My daughter went camping for 5 days. She did have so much fun hiking and exploring the outdoors but sadly after a week, she noticed that her big toe was turning yellow again…arggghhh! I was in a panic because I know its toe nail fungus again.
Although I have my choices of treatments, still being a frugal mom I checked out some inexpensive but effective home remedies and I want to share some of them to you:
* Tea Tree Oil is something you can get in the drug store or health food store. Put it on a couple times a day (make sure it doesnt irritate by using it only once and then wait to see) for several weeks until the fungus is gone. Do the same using Oil of Oregano
*Epsom Salt Therapy
1. Cut and File your nails as much as comfortably possible.
2. Soak in Epsom salt 2 x day for at least 20 minutes. Use as hot of water as you can stand with a cup full or more of the salts. Put the salt right over the infected nail if the water is too hot and wait for it to be ok then submerge.
You will notice a whitening effect after the first soak. Remeber to file down not just the tip. but the actual nail bed if it is yucky, this is so that the salt can get under the nail to the fungi.
3. Dry your feet with a clean towel, then wash infected towel with hot water and bleach (use white ones).
4. Apply Clove oil to the nail with a Q-tip for each nail. You do not need alot.
5. If you live in colder climate and need to wear shoes and socks daily, try to change your socks Mid-day if you get sweaty. Also, make sure you have the clove oil and Vicks on the toes when wearing the socks.
6. Around the house try to go with flip flops
Good Luck! Fungus is very difficult to get rid of once it is there, because the nail that protects bacteria and yuckies from getting under it, also blockes treatments from getting to it.
We are still at our 3rd day with the Epsom Salt therapy and will do this everyday till the nail grows out healthy and fungus free.
